MOJO 144

Here's my card for this week's MOJO Monday challenge (MOJO144). Yes, I know it is Friday. That's the great thing about these challenges. You can do them anytime you need a little inspiration.

I only have 5 days left in my own personal challenge to use up my retiring paper and it looks like I'm not going to make it. Really, I'm not surprised. With the amount of paper I have accumulated it would probably take at least another 6 months to use it up. I've decided I'm not a hoarder though. I prefer to think of myself as a paper "collector". I can't help it. I really love all of the beautiful patterns and colors. I also love the fact all of the Stampin' Up! papers, inks, card stock and accessories coordinate. I don't have to worry about whether or not my ribbon will match my paper. Pumpkin Pie is Pumpkin Pie whether your talking paper, ink or ribbon.

Materials:
  • Stamp Set:  Party Hearty
  • Ink: Taken With Teal (retiring)
  • Paper: Sweet Pea Designer Paper (retired - sold out)
  • Card Stock:  Pumpkin Pie, Chocolate Chip, Whisper White
  • Punches: 3/4" circle, 1/2" Circle, Rounded Tab
  • Accessories: Chit Chat Rub-ons (retiring)

The CRaZy Just Continues!

Well the crazy just continues! Here's my day. Get up at 5:00am. Leave to take Katie to practice at 5:30. Stop on the way to pick up two other swimmers. Drop them all off at the pool at 6:00am. Drive home. OOPS no gas. Try to find an open gas station. Pump gas. Drive home. Take shower. Wake Aubrey up. Take her to practice at a different pool in the opposite direction. Leave her with coach. Drive 45 min back to first pool. Pick up Katie and friends. Drop friends off at their house. Drive to back to Aubrey's pool. Drive home. Make breakfast it's now 10:30am. Try to get some work done. Katie needs a ride to the beach. Aubrey needs something at Walmart. Katie needs a ride home from the beach. Oh yeah, we were suppose to make cookies for the swim team movie night. Drive to Target. Buy cookie dough. Go home. Make cookies. Burn cookies. Decide to bring chips instead. Late for team pictures and pool movie night.  Rush around packing cooler. Phone rings. Older daughter, Meagan, was in a car accident. Her phone keeps dying. Don't know where she is. Call my husband to see if he's heard from her.  He hasn't. He starts freaking out. Take Aubrey to pool. Meagan calls back. Her car has been towed and she needs a ride. Leave Aubrey with another busy mom (Thank you Deanna!) Pick up Meagan. Take her home.  Drive back to pool to pick up Aubrey and finish watching finding Nemo. It's now 10:30pm. My house looks like it's been ransacked.  We have no clean laundry. We have a travel swim meet this weekend. I need to get groceries. I haven't prepared for my Monday and Tuesday classes. I have to place a Stampin' Up! order and I haven't posted on my blog in two days. Yes...the crazy just continues!
Oh yeah...I almost forgot...this is suppose to be about the card...and YES...I do Love you Friends!

It's MOJO Monday Time Again!

Today is Monday so it's time for another MOJO Monday sketch challenge.  I am really becoming addicted to these challenges. They are so much fun!

I am still trying to reach my goal of using up my old paper by June 30th. I really want to make room for all of the gorgeous papers that are in my new catalog.  My shopping list for July 1st, (when the new catalog goes live) has become mighty long!  I am so excited about some of the new stamp sets and papers that I can hardly contain myself!

For this card, I used my All in the Family stamp set.  I don't use this set very often but I don't know why.  It is so cute and fun to play with.  All of the heads, bodies, arms & legs are interchangeable so there's practically an unlimited number of little people just waiting to be created.  Aubrey and I spent a good part of the afternoon playing with this stamp set and creating our little people.  Then we colored them in with the Stampin' Write markers.  Yes, you caught us...Aubrey skipped swim practice because we were having so much fun!

TIP:  When using the All in the Family stamp set you really need to use the Stamp-a-ma-jig.  It really helps to get the little heads, bodies, arms & legs stamped in the right places!

Color Combination Challange (A Tough One!)

This card was made for the Color Combination Challange (CC274) on Splitcoast Stampers.  The challenge this week is to create a card using the colors Tempting Turquoise, Cameo Coral and Ruby Red along with any neutral. I have to tell you this was a tough one for me. I would not have normally put these colors together, and it did take me most of the day to wrap my mind around the challenge.

I think overall the card came out pretty good. In fact my husband just walked in and picked up the card.  I immediately said "I know, it's not very good, but it's for a challenge". He replied, "What are you talking about I think it looks great. I really like the colors."  So I guess maybe the color combo might not be as strange as I first thought.

Oh, and since Ruby Red and Cameo Coral are retiring colors I even managed to use up some of my paper stash!

  • Stamp Set:  Things I Love (115229)
  • Ink:  Basic Black

Artisan Award? Maybe If I'd Sent It In...

I made this bank a while back when I was thinking of entering the Stampin' Up! Artisan Award contest.  It was going to be one of my 3D projects.  But as often happens, time got away from me and I just couldn't get all of the necessary projects done. On the bright side, Aubrey can't wait to start putting money in her new bank.  To make this bank, I covered an empty candy container with Sending Love Specialty paper. I used the Word Window punch to make the slit in the top.

To make the flowers:
  1. Punch out 8 pieces with the XL Fancy Flower punch.
  2. Spritz them with water and scrunch them up. The water makes them easier to scrunch and gives them a softer look.
  3. Flattened them back out and stack them up
  4. Then punch a hole and put a brad through the center of the stack to hold them all together.
  5. Start with the top flower and scrunch it around the brad as tight as possible.
  6. Do the same with each flower scrunching tight around the brad and the flower layer above it.
  7. Loosen the layers back up until you have a flower that appeals to you.

To make the leaves.
  1. Punch scallop ovals out of green cardstock.
  2. Spritz with water
  3. Fold in half the long way (hot dog)
  4. Then tightly accordian fold
  5. Unfold and attach to bottom of flower

Materials:
  • Sending Love Specialty Paper (retired)
  • Card Stock:

    • Gable Green (102795) (retiring - available while supplies last)

Fun & Fast Notes - A real bargain!

I love this little bird in the Fun and Fast Notes stamp set.  But you all probably already knew that based on the number of times you have seen it in my cards.  This set is great because comes with a cute picture and greeting for almost every occasion.  There are 8 stamps in this set and the cost breaks down to only $4.25 a stamp.  Compare that to the cost of a single stamp at the major craft stores and you'll see what a good deal you're getting with this set.

TIP: The stamped images can be colored in with markers, watercolors or pastels so you can customize them to match any color scheme.

Materials:
  • Stamp Set:  Fun & Fast Notes (#113500 - $33.95)
  • Ink: Basic Black
  • Card Stock: Whisper White, Basic Black, Crushed Curry
  • Designer Paper:  Thoroughly Modern
  • Stampin' Write Markers:  Bermuda Bay, Crushed Curry, Old Olive

NOTE:  The following items used in this card will be retired on June 30th.  They may be ordered while supplies last.
