Christmas Countdown with Holiday Cards Continues...45 Days

Only 45 days left until Christmas. Today I'm working on Christmas gift card holders and browsing around on Pinterest. I love Pinterest! So many great ideas.

Aubrey and Katie both have boards set up to pin their Christmas wish lists. I like to shop online so I think this will work out great! Theoretically, all I'll have to do is click on their pins and I'll be taken to the websites to purchase the items. I'll let you know how it works out.

For instructions on making a gift card holder see my Father's Day Gift Card Holder post.

Christmas Wishes Card - 46 Days

The countdown to Christmas continues...only 46 days 10 hours til Christmas. And I just realized that Thanksgiving is really late this year so if you're waiting until Thanksgiving to start making your holiday plans you might find yourself in a bit of trouble. I know I'm already starting to feel behind the game.

Today's Christmas card is simple but elegant. I think we will be one of the cards we make at our annual Christmas Card Camp.

TIP:  After stamping the greeting I white cardstock and cutting it out with one of the Apothecary Accent dies I thought it looked a little blah.  So I inked the edges, punched two holes for ribbon and tied it to my card.

Materials:
  • Paper:
    • Designer Paper:  Season of Style Paper Stack (Stampin' Up!)
    • Cardstock:  Whisper White, Crumb Cake, Cherry Cobbler (Stampin' Up!)
  • Stamp Set:  Joy to the World (Stampin' Up!)

More Thanksgiving or Fall Wedding Place Cards

Thanksgiving Place Cards

I'm trying to get some work done today.  I'm feeling WAY behind. These place cards are from a custom order I mailed out yesterday.  The customer requested multicolored leaves instead of the gold or orange that I had listed in the shop. I liked the look so much that they are now a stock item.

That's how I get so many of my ideas...inspired by you!

Materials:
  • Paper:  Soft Suede and Very Vanilla cardstock (Stampin' Up!), Orange, Green and Gold  Glitter cardstock (Core'dinations)
  • Punches:  Scallop Border Punch (Stampin' Up!)
  • Tools:  Big Shot (Stampin' Up! - Sizzix), Leaf Die (Cuttlebug), Score Pal (Stampin' Up!)

More Thanksgiving Place Cards

Thanksgiving Table Setting

Here's another set of Thanksgiving place cards that are a little more elegant. The ivory paper with scallop border, soft suede background, and glitter leaf give them a formal look.

These tent style place cards measure 3" x 2" (folded measurements). So you would need to cut your base cardstock piece 3" x 4" and score in the middle. Like the place cards in my previous post, the names are printed using my word processing program, and the leaves are cut out with my Big Shot.

The matching tags can be used as napkin rings, tied around favor bags, wine bottles or wine glasses.

Materials:
  • Paper:  Soft Suede and Very Vanilla cardstock (Stampin' Up!), Orange Glitter cardstock (Core'dinations)
  • Punches:  Scallop Border Punch (Stampin' Up!), 1 3/4" Scallop Circle Punch (Stampin' Up!), 2 1/4" Circle Punch.
  • Tools:  Big Shot (Stampin' Up! - Sizzix), Leaf Die (Cuttlebug), Score Pal (Stampin' Up!)
  • Accessories:  1/4" Satin Ribbon (Michael's)

What Kind of Thanksgiving Table Do You Set?

What kind of Thanksgiving table do you set? Formal with fine china, cloth napkins and place cards? Buffet style with paper plates? Or something in between?

I've always wanted to have a formal Thanksgiving table.  You know, like Martha Stewart meets Norman Rockwell. The problem is, we have a small house, a tiny dining room and lots of people. So out of necessity, we end up having a buffet style Thanksgiving on paper plates with everyone eating wherever the feel most comfortable. Usually, the men are in the family room watching football. Women in the dining room with wine and gossip, The kids at the coffee table in the living room watching a Christmas movie.

If I could set a formal Thanksgiving table, I would use these place cards. They have just the right balance. The kraft cardstock give them a casual tone, while the printed names gives them a touch of elegance.

These were pretty easy to make. The most difficult part was setting up a template in my word processing program to get the names in the right spot.  Once I had that set, I printed the names on a sheet of 8 1/2" x 11" kraft cardstock, cut out the place cards, scored them and embellished them with an autumn colored cardstock leaf which I cut out using my Big Shot.

While I can't use these on my Thanksgiving table, you can! They are available in my Etsy Shop, AcarrdianCards or go ahead and make them for yourself.  If you do end up using them, send me a photo. I love to live vicariously!

Materials:
  • Paper:
    • Base:  65lb Kraft cardstock (Michael's),
    • Leaves:  Variety of Autumn colored cardstock (Stampin' Up!)
  • Tools:
    • Big Shot (Stampin' Up!)
    • Simply Scored - Scoring Board (Stampin' Up!)
    • Leaf Dies (Cuttlebug)

DIY Halloween Treat Bags - Treats For Boo!

These Halloween treat bag toppers are so adorable!  They measure 3" x 2" folded and are the perfect size to top the 3" x 5" resealable cello bags that I purchased.

Making the toppers is super easy!  Just fold a piece of 3" x 4" cardstock in half so the folded dimensions are 3" x 2" and embellish.  Seriously, it's that easy!

TIPS:

  • Fill your treat bags, insert them into the topper and staple before embellishing.  This way the scrapbook paper and embellishment will cover the staples.
  • Using dimensional adhesives a.k.a. "Pop Dots" on your embellishments gives them a lot more impact.

Materials:

  • Cardstock:  12x12 Black (Recollections), Whisper White (Stampin' Up!)
  • Paper:  The Halloween & Fall Stack (DCWV)
  • Ink:  Basic Black, Pumpkin Pie (Stampin' Up!)
  • Stamp Set:  Mixed Medley (Stampin' Up! - retired hostess set)
  • Paper Punches:  7/8" Scallop Circle (Stampin' Up!), 3/4" Circle (Stampin' Up!)
  • Accessories:  Dimensional Adhesive, 3" x 5" Food Safe Resealable Cello Bags (GTBags.com)

Happy Fall Y'all

Happy Fall Y'all!  These Fall tags are the perfect addition to your fall entertaining.  Add them to party favor bags, gift bags or use them as cool napkin rings.  The "Happy Fall Y'all" saying is perfect for Autumn Harvest parties or it could easily be changed to "Happy Thanksgiving" and used at your Thanksgiving celebrations.

I used my computer to print the greeting onto orange cardstock and punched it out with the Word Window punch by Stampin' Up!.

TIP:   I found if I set the view zoom on my word processing program to to 105% it matches up perfectly to real life.  (your program my vary...just hold a piece of paper up to your computer screen and zoom in or out until the image on the screen matches up with your piece of paper.)

TIP:   I Punched out a piece of scrap cardstock with the word window punch and held it up to the computer screen. This way I could easily see when I had the font size just right to be punched out.

TIP:  To string my tags, I like to use Aunt Lydia's Crochet Thread (Size 3). It is the perfect weight and very cost effective.

Supplies:

  • Cardstock:  Chocolate Chip, Peach Parfait and Cajun Craze (Stampin' Up!)
  • Paper Punches:  Word Window (Stampin' Up!), 2 1/2" Circle Punch (Stampin' Up!)
  • Tools:  Big Shot (Sizzix), Fall Leaf Die (Cuttlebug), Crop-O-Dile (We R Memory Keepers)
  • Accessories:  Brown Crochet Thread (Aunt Lydia's #3)

Halloween Pencil Favors

Halloween is such a fun holiday to prepare for! I love decorating and creating great treats for Halloween parties and all of the little trick or treaters in our neighborhood.

These pencils are a really cute and inexpensive sugar free treat.  The Halloween pencils fit perfectly into the 1"x 8" cello bags and the handmade toppers really dress them up!

To make the toppers:
  1. Cut pieces of black cardstock:  1 3/4" x 3 1/2"
  2. Score at 1 3/4" so the folded dimensions are 1 3/4" x 1 3/4"
  3. Fold over the top of the pencil filled cello bags and staple
  4. Decorate topper to cover the staple

Supplies:
  • Cardstock:  Basic Black, Pumpkin Pie, Gumball Green, Elegant Eggplant (Stampin' Up!)
  • Rubber Stamps:  Grateful Greetings (Stampin' Up! - retired)
  • Ink:  Basic Black
  • Paper Punches:  Scallop Square, Postage Stamp (Stampin' Up! - retired)

I'm Ready for Fall!

It's that time of year when I yearn for cooler weather!  I grew up in Upstate NY and come September there was a crispness in the air.  I miss the crisp air, changing leaves, apple cider and everything else that comes with fall in the north.

Since I am living in Florida where there aren't any changing leaves or apple orchards and there won't be any cool weather for a while...I guess I will have to crank up the air conditioning, buy some pumpkin pie scented candles and get out my fall paper crafting supplies.

Today I created this Fall themed card and gift card holder.  For instructions on making the gift card holders you can refer to this post:  Gift Card Holder Tutorial

Supplies:
  • Cardstock:  Cajun Craze, Early Espresso and Very Vanilla (Stampin' Up!),
  • Paper:  Halloween & Fall Stack (DCWV)
  • Rubber Stamps:  Grateful Greetings (Stampin' Up! - retired)
  • Ink:  Cajun Craze (Stampin' Up!)
  • Paper Punches:  Scallop Oval, Medium Oval, Corner Rounder
  • Tools:  Big Shot (Sizzix), Maple Leaf Die (Provo Craft Cuttlebug), Scoring Board
  • Accessories:  Buttons, Linen Thread, Velcro

Happy 4th of July

Happy 4th of July! What are your plans for the day? I'll be working on my Etsy shop and doing things I normally don't have time for...creating treasuries, checking out other shops, a little Pinterest...and who knows what else.

Here are few patriotic treasures I found on Etsy this morning. (from left to right)

Christmas in July on Etsy

Handmade Christmas Card by AcarrdianCards

It's Christmas in July time! I've been super busy playing with all of my Christmas stamps, papers, ribbons and bows. Although I love Christmas, I have to admit it can be a little hard to get into the spirit when it's so hot and humid out. But I've been doing my best...playing Christmas carols, eating snow cones...OK, I haven't really been playing Christmas carols, but I did think about it!

While the official dates of this Etsy event are July 11th - 21st, I will be running my sale during the entire month. Use coupon code CIJ2013B to save 15% on everything in my shop.

Use the terms CIJ or christmasinjuly when searching on Etsy to find other shop owners who are participating in this awesome event!

Father's Day...What to Do?

Father's Day Gift Card Holder
Father's Day Gift Card Holder
I can't believe Father's Day is Sunday. I've been so busy with graduation, our house guests, the kid's activities, and my Etsy shop, that time has gotten away from me.

Thank goodness for my little one. Was it not been for her frequent nagging reminding, I think the day might have slipped right by me.  But what to do?

The first place I head is to my stash. I know it's lame...but come on...I'm sure that's where you'd go too. Why not? The stuff's already made.

I pulled out this gift card holder and decided I'll just run to the grocery store, grab an itunes gift card and we'd be all set.

But nooo...
  • Aubs:  We have to do something Special
  • Me:   Special? My gift card holders are special.
  • Aubs:  But you didn't make that just for dad.
  • Me:  Yes I did. It says Dad doesn't it?
  • Aubs:  Gives me a "lets be real" look and leaves the room.

So, I guess I'll be spending the rest of my day trying to help her think of something REALLY special

If you want to make a gift card holder for your Father/Dad/Husband...Here is the tutorial:

Instructions:
  • Cut a piece of card stock to 3 1/2" x 8 1/2" (you can make 3 gift card holders from 1 piece of 8 1/2 x 11" CS)
  • Score CS @ 2 1/2" on one end and 2" on other end.
  • Use Rounded Corner Punch to round corners on the 2" end
  • Cut 3 pieces of Designer Paper
    • 3 1/4 " x 1 3/4"
    • 3 1/4" x 2 1/4"
    • 3 1/4" x 3 3/4"
  • Use Rounded Corner Punch to round corners on one side of 1 3/4" piece of Designer Paper.
  • Run adhesive along side edges only of 2 1/4" side of card stock and fold up to form gift card pocket
  • Attach designer paper to outside of gift card holder
  • Attach a small piece of velcro to 2" side and fold down.
  • Embellish as desired.
    • I used "Dad" from the Family Reunion stamp set.
    • The set also contains "Husband" and "Grandpa".
    • This set retired June 1st. So if you have it, use it. If not, visit my Etsy shop and I'll make up a card for you!

    • Scrapbook Paper (DCWV)
    • Card Stock

Graduation Party!

Today was Katie's graduation party. Everything looked great! Only one problem, I was so busy working on everything, I forgot to take pictures!

Here are a few pictures I took after the party. But I am so bummed that I didn't get more because everything really did come out awesome and I would have loved to share the photos with you!

These are the cupcake toppers. I only wish I had thought to get blue and orange cupcake wrappers.

I didn't have time to bake but I am lucky to have good friends who are always ready to jump in and help! I made the cupcake toppers and our good friend Kristen made these delicious cupcakes...54 of them. She even made a batch of gluten free cupcakes for our guests with dietary concerns.

These are the party favors. Little cello bags filled with M&M's in school colors tied with these cute custom tags...So easy to make.

TIP:  Fresh Market sells bulk M&M's in a wide variety of colors and they are pretty reasonably priced.

I found citronella candles in these orange metal containers at Big Lots. I just cut out some orange polka dot paper and attached the same tags I used on the party favors to all four sides for these custom table centerpieces.

This is a picture of the banner I made to hang across the patio.  I didn't get a very good picture of it. It read "Congrats Katie 2013".

I used the Big Shot and Lifestyle Nesting Pennant dies to cut out the pennant shapes. The letters were cut out using my Cricut and Extreme Fonts cartridge. You can't really tell but, the stars and Katie are cut out of silver glitter paper for added bling.

This was the drink station. The blue and orange drink dispensers came from Walmart and we filled them with  iced tea, gatorade, water and crystal light.

Our local Winn Dixie had these school balloons.

So, that was your limited tour. The party was great! Everyone had a good time and the next time I have a party I will definitely remember to take more photos.

Dinoroar Dinosaur Cards...Nearing Extinction

The Dinoroar stamp set will soon be extinct...I mean retired. If you want it, you'll need to get it now because it won't be in the new Stampin' Up! catalog on June 1st.

I really like this stamp set for kids birthday cards and valentines.  There aren't too many stamps sets that make cute valentines for little boys.

The dinosaur images look great whether they're colored in or not. For the birthday card, I stamped the image in black and heat set it. Then I colored it in with Stampin' Write Markers to match the color scheme of the card. Heat setting the black ink stops it from smudging when you color the image in.

For the valentines I just stamped the image in the same color ink as the card stock. No need to color them in...they look great as is. These are quick and easy valentines which is a necessity when make 24-30 for a classroom of kids!

Materials for Birthday Card:  (All materials are Stampin' Up! unless otherwise noted)
  • Stamp Set:  Dinoroar (122537 - RETIRING)
  • Ink:  Basic Black (126980)

Happy Birthday Card...Summer Smooches

Summer Smooches is one of my favorite retiring designer papers. I love the bright colors and fun patterns! Today I used it to make this fun and summery birthday card.

Notes:
  • For the background and center oval, I used two coordinating patterns from the Summer Smooches Designer Paper. It's so easy to pull coordinating papers from the paper packs!
  • The "Happy Birthday" greeting is from the Itty Bitty Banners Stamp Set and cut out with the Bitty Banners Framelits.  These two products coordinate with each other making it super easy to cut out your greetings.
  • The red ovals were cut out using the Oval Collection Framelits. These nesting framelits are great for layering!
  • The flower embellishment was created by layering different sized scallop circles.
  • I punched out some butterflies with the Elegant Butterfly punch and added some Stampin' Up! Rhinestones to the butterflies and flower for some added bling. I also used Stampin' Dimensionals® on the butterflies and flowers to give the card some added dimension.

Materials:
  • Card Stock:
    • Whisper White (base)
    • Real Red
    • Pacific Point
  • Designer Paper:  Summer Smooches (125409 - retiring)
  • Stamp Set:  Itty Bitty Banners (126257)
  • Ink:  Pacific Point (126951)

Cute Little Party Favor Purses

Look at these cute little purses. They are the perfect party favor for birthday parties or bridal showers. Even though they look small, they will hold about 10 Hershey Kisses. What could be better? A cute purse AND chocolate!

They measure approximately 2 7/8" x 1 7/8" x 1 3/8" (not including handle) and are super easy to make with the Petite Purse Big Shot die.

TIPS:

  • I used sticky strips (104294) when assembling these boxes for a strong bond.
  • I attached the handles with glue dots (103683) but I think brads would work well too!

Materials:

  • Cardstock:  Daffodil Delight, Tangerine Tango, Melon Mambo, Whisper White
  • Tools & Accessories:
    • Big Shot (113439)
    • Petite Purse Die (125606)

Handmade Tags...Wish Big!

These tags would look amazing attached to gift packages or party favors. You could even tie them around your napkins for really cute napkin rings and if your wrote your guest's names on the back they could double as place cards.

    • I used my Cricut and George Basic Shape cartridge.
    • You could also use your Big Shot and the Sizzix Tags, Scallop Combo #2 Die.
  • Stamp the front of the tag with the Wish Big stamp from Bring on the cake stamp.
    • I used Early Espresso but you can use whatever color matches your party theme.
  • Use daubers to rub ink around the edges of the tags for an aged distressed look.
  • Tie on a bow in matching satin ribbon.

Materials  (all materials are Stampin' Up! unless otherwise noted)
  • Card Stock:  Natural Ivory
  • Stamp Set:  Bring on the Cake

Wow, am I glad I did. While browsing around, I came across these gorgeous paper mache cups and saucers by Swedish artist, Cecilia Levy. Of course after finding these on Pinterest, I had to visit her website and blog

Gift Wrap with Handmade Flowers

Aubrey was invited to a birthday party this weekend but we didn't have a pretty bow to put on the gift she was bringing. No problem! We just made up a few of the handmade flowers from the tutorial in my previous post, added some ribbon, a couple of punched out butterflies, a few acrylic gems for bling (every little girl loves bling!) and we had a gorgeous package!

TIP:  The center of the flower is the top scallop in your stack (see tutorial). If you want the center of your flower to be in a contrasting color, just change out the top scallop.

Materials:
  • Card Stock:  Melon Mambo, Tangerine Tango, Daffodil Delight (Stampin' Up!)
  • Tools:  2 3/8" Scallop Punch (Stampin' Up!)  Butterfly Punch (EK Success)
  • Accessories:  Acrylic Gems (Stampin' Up!) Green Glitter Ribbon (Michaels), brads

Handmade Paper Flowers...a Tutorial

These handmade paper flowers are really beautiful and they can be used to decorate so many things. I like to put them on the little cake favor boxes I showed you yesterday. I also like to add them to my gift wrapping. With some ribbon, they make packages look so elegant!

Follow the simple steps to make these pretty paper flowers:

1.  Punch 6 scallop circles out of card stock.  Any size...the larger the circle....the larger the flower.

2.  Spritz the scallops with water and scrunch up as tight as possible.

3. Flatten them back out and stack them (try to alternate the peaks of the scallops) and put a brad in the middle to hold the stack together.

4. Starting with the top scallop, squish each scallop up around the brad as tightly as possible.

5. Gently unsquish (is that a word?) the scallops to form a flower.

To make the leaf:

1. Punch out either an oval or a scallop oval from green cardstock.

2. Spritz the oval with water and fold it lengthwise (hotdog) and then accordian fold.

 4. Unfold to form leaf.

5. Hot glue leaf to bottom of flower.

That's it....you're done.  Now make yourself a bunch to decorate your life!
